05. It's time to get married!

About a month before your big day, we'll hop on a check-in call to cover all the crucial details, make sure our timeline is on point, and tackle any last-minute twists and turns.

It’s our chance to get on the same page and for you to spill the beans on what you're dreaming of for your wedding photos.

4. Check-in call

To ensure your big day goes smoothly and every important moment is captured, a little bit of planning goes a long way.

In your client lounge, I'll offer some vendor recommendations, walk you through various photography options, present timeline examples, and provide all the details you need for completing the pre-wedding questionnaire.

2. Wedding planning & timeline

I ask all my couples to fill out a pre-wedding questionnaire. It’s a super helpful way for getting to know what matters most to you!

Your answers help me plan a photography timeline that fits your day perfectly and makes sure all those meaningful moments are beautifully captured.

3. pre-wedding questionnaire

Your engagement session is the perfect time for us to get familiar and feel at ease with the camera. It's a wonderful chance to enjoy some quality time together while calming any pre-wedding jitters.

The wedding process

1. Engagement session

How to prepare for your engagement session:

The best time to schedule your engagement session is typically 8-10 months before your wedding. This allows plenty of time for planning, editing, and using the photos for save-the-dates or your wedding website.

Scheduling during golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) provides the most beautiful, soft light. Spring and fall are particularly popular seasons due to the mild weather and gorgeous scenery, but any time of year can be magical!

The best time for planning your engagement session

Your engagement session is an ideal time to help you feel at ease in front of the camera before your wedding day (which is super important!!). It’s also an opportunity to get to know each other a bit better, discover your relationship dynamics, understand your vision for the big day, and see how you interact.

Every couple is different, and ultimately, I want your photos to capture the essence of you as a couple, making this session the perfect opportunity to bond before the wedding day!

Enjoy the calm and timeless beauty of [name of location]. Picture the golden hour light on the waves or playful moments in the sand - the seaside provides a peaceful and romantic backdrop for your engagement photos.

La Spezia beach, Monterosso

[Name of location] is where tranquility meets enchantment. Nestled in the heart of nature, [Name of location] boasts a remarkable landscape that's perfect for crafting unforgettable engagement photos.

Foresta di Vallombrosa

The city center of [name of location] is perfect for those who appreciate an urban backdrop. Here, you'll find an eclectic mix of modern and historic architecture that provides a unique environment for your engagement photos.

City Center of New York

Location ideas

Make sure your nails are looking good, since your hands - especially your rings - will be on display during the engagement session. This goes for guys too!

Make sure Hands & nails are photo-ready

If you’re planning to have a trial for your wedding day look, your engagement session is the perfect time to test it out and see how it photographs!

This is the perfect time for make-up & hair trial

Soft, muted colors like earth tones, creams, and pastels, along with simple or no patterns, photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you.

Stay away from bright colors & busy patterns

Choose a color palette that complements each other rather than identical outfits.

Coordinate, don’t match

Most couples bring one formal and one casual outfit. This mix is a great way to add variety to your engagement photos. Save your favorite outfit for later, as you may feel more relaxed as the session progresses.

Bring two outfits

Styling tips

Please give me a call if any last-minute changes pop up, or if you're going to be late for our session!

Save my phone number: [your phone number]

Leave no phones, keys, or other items in your pockets during the session.

Empty your pockets

A light meal or snack will help you feel your best and avoid energy dips during your session.

Eat Something Beforehand

Give your ring a quick polish or professional clean so it sparkles in close-ups.

Clean your rings

Some locations may require time to find a spot, pay for parking, or walk a bit. Check ahead so you’re not delayed.

Plan for Parking

Once you've chosen your location, just send me an email and we'll nail down a date and time!

While I’ll try to document all candid moments during the day, it’s helpful to know any specific groupings, moments, or sentimental details you want included.

These ideas will help you fill out the pre-wedding questionnaire - it’s like a cheat sheet for making sure we snap all the must-have shots in the final wedding timeline, and no one gets left out (not even Uncle Bob's infamous dance moves)!

This is the start of your special day - filled with excitement, a few nerves, and those peaceful moments before the celebrations kick off, all surrounded by your favorite people.

These photos are a beautiful way to document the behind-the-scenes emotion of your day - moments you might not even realize are happening until you see them captured in your gallery.

Getting ready

It allows for a smoother, more relaxed timeline.

Your hair and makeup will be freshly done and at their best for your portraits.

You can go straight to the cocktail hour after the ceremony instead of taking time away for portraits.

You’ll have more time for portraits earlier in the day (often in better light!).

It helps calm nerves and ease any pre-ceremony jitters.

You get to enjoy a quiet, intimate moment together before the whirlwind of the day begins.

Benefits of doing a first look:

A first look lets you have a special moment together before your wedding day kicks into full gear. It gives you both a chance to relax and ease those nerves before the ceremony. But remember, it's totally optional! Many couples still love the classic approach of seeing each other for the first time at the altar.

The moment you say "I do" is really the heart of your wedding day. It's where emotions are at their peak - joy, tears, laughter - and I'll be right there to capture every single one. From the walk down the aisle to heading back up, and all the feelings in between, these are the photos you'll treasure forever.

Bonus CANVA TEMPLATE

Include any meaningful relationships that may not fall into the traditional categories (e.g. godparents, chosen family, step-siblings).

Designate a photo helper who knows the guests to help organize and call out groupings during photo time.

Start by listing the 10 most important people or combinations you'd like photographed. This helps make sure the must-have shots are captured no matter what.

Some tips for creating your shot list:

Depending on how big your wedding is, the list of group photos with family and friends can get pretty extensive and take a lot of time. To make sure I capture all the key people, I suggest putting a list together of must-have family and group photos. You can share this with me when you fill out the pre-wedding questionnaire. Keep in mind, this list is just a starter point - I'm happy to snap extra photos if we have time!

Some couples love a quiet session right after their first look, while others prefer the magic of the golden hour just before sunset. Depending on your schedule and what you enjoy, we might even do both!

When to plan a portrait session:

I love squeezing in some extra portraits of just the two of you! This is your chance to step away from the hustle and soak in the joy of being newly married. These images are full of love, intimacy, and emotion, and become some of the most cherished portraits of your wedding day.

Portrait session

We can capture moments right at your venue - whether it's in the gardens, by a lovely archway, or within a charming architectural space. If there are scenic areas like open fields, wooded spots, or a nearby overlook around your venue, we can sneak away for a few magical shots there too. I make sure to scout out the best light and locations beforehand so we can truly make the most of wherever we find ourselves!

Once you've filled out your pre-wedding questionnaire, I'll take all those details - like when your ceremony is, travel info, and those key moments you don't want to miss - and craft a custom photography timeline.

This timeline will help ensure everything goes off without a hitch, capturing those special moments with optimal lighting and zero stress. Here are a few timeline examples, both without and with a first look.

Please fill out the questionnaire by [insert date here]. This gives us plenty of time to finalize your timeline, answer any follow-up questions, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Important

Before your big day, I’d love to learn a bit more about you!

That’s why I ask all my couples to fill out a pre-wedding questionnaire. It’s a fun and super helpful way for me to get to know your story, the important people in your life, and the little details that matter most to you.

This helps me create a photography timeline that reflects your day perfectly, and make sure nothing special is missed!

Your timeline is crafted to keep the day rolling smoothly, with plenty of room for capturing all those must-see moments.

Your photography timeline

Designate someone, like a bridesmaid or family member, to be the go-to person for vendors or questions.

Pack an emergency kit, including safety pins, a mini sewing kit, blotting papers, extra bobby pins, pain relievers, and band-aids.

Share your timeline with vendors and key people (like the wedding party and family involved in portraits), and keep a copy easily accessible on your phone or printed out for reference.

Hydrate and eat, especially in the morning! A good breakfast helps start the day strong.

Breathe and soak it in. Enjoy each part of the day - it goes by in a flash.

Don't forget to:

With so much going on, it helps to have a few go-to tips and reminders in your back pocket. This section is designed to support you through the day - from staying calm to making sure nothing gets overlooked. Let’s make it as smooth and joyful as possible.
